Simple sewing - gingham napkins

I really like beautifully laid out tables. Nothing fancy. Just a little flower, a candle, maybe some napkins or a lovely potholder by Renilde. During the holidays there's always time to set the table before two starving little princesses forget all their manners and attack the food.

I know it's not going to be easy, but I would quite like to make it a daily habit.

To help us along I did some very simple sewing - a small stash of gingham napkins. Inspired by these beautiful camping pictures we even took them with us on a recent camping trip. They turned out to be quite versatile. They had to help cover little eyes when washing their hair under the evil grown up shower could no longer be avoided. And I think they go very well with what can be found in the woods.

Hopefully with things starting to settle around here, there will be more sewing and posting and commenting on your posts soon. I miss it.

Remember calm?

I am going to look at those pictures for the next week to remind myself that back to school madness is only temporary. Calm will return eventually (and sewing can commence again).

DIY Play Store

It's quite common in Barcelona to find the entire contents of a flat that has to be cleaned out dumped onto the street. For me, impossible to just walk past. I am not sure what this piece of furniture is called. I think it was part of an old kitchen. I could tell that it was handmade yet awfully neglected and full of old bottles of schnapps.

Well, with a little bit of work (and help from my favourite little helper) it has turned into a play store to accompany the play kitchen that continues to be used on a daily basis. Now we have to go shopping a lot and it's my new favourite thing.

In the real world, they once reminded me: 'Mama, don't forget to buy money'.
In their store I often get given money at the check out so that I can pay the 87 Euros for 2 orange skittles. And it really doesn't matter what I came in to buy, I cannot leave without taking flour, sugar, eggs and milk with me, because this is what you need to make a cake. Hint, hint.

Thank you very much for your comments on the dress. To me, it is my London dress. Still such a vibrant, buzzing, mad and slightly tipsy place. Cycling along the Thames path on a Boris Bike on the hottest day of the year (of course, we had to bring the heat with us) made me want to stay. Thanks to Francesca for the tips on where to go now.
